White Masterbatch for Packaging Film — 60% TiO2 Rutile, Whiteness ≥97

A rutile titanium dioxide concentrate in PE or PP carrier, used at 2–10% addition to give opacity and whiteness in blown film, blow moulded bottles and sheet. Supplied as free-flowing granules in 25 kg bags.

What it does: titanium dioxide is the white pigment with the highest refractive index, which is why it delivers opacity at low loading. Rutile grades scatter light more efficiently than anatase and are the standard choice for packaging.

Where it works — and where it does not

A white opacifier for polyolefin packaging and moulded parts.

Suitable for

  • White packaging film, label film and lamination film
  • Blow moulded HDPE bottles and containers
  • Injection moulded housings and household goods
  • PP sheet and thermoformed trays
  • Masterbatch blends where white is the base colour

Not suitable for

  • Transparent or translucent film — TiO2 is an opacifier by design
  • Long-term outdoor exposure unless the grade is supplied with coated, weathering-stabilised TiO2
  • Food-contact surfaces unless the specific grade is approved for that use
  • High-tenacity raffia at high loading, where pigment cuts tensile strength
  • Colour-critical work without a colour match trial on your own line

Suggested addition rate by process

ProcessTypical additionNotes
Blown film (thin, 20–40 μm)4–10%Thin walls need more pigment to reach full opacity
Blown film (thick, above 60 μm)2–5%Opacity builds with wall thickness
Blow molding (HDPE bottle)3–6%Balance opacity against impact strength
Injection molding2–5%Higher loading raises stiffness and lowers impact

Rates assume a 60% TiO2 grade.

Documentation supplied with every batch

TDS — technical datasheet

English, listing TiO2 content and type, carrier resin, MFI with test conditions and the whiteness measurement method.

COA — batch certificate

Issued per production batch with measured values and batch number.

MSDS — safety data sheet

English, 16-section format, plus HS code guidance for the destination country.

Frequently asked questions

Why rutile TiO2 and not anatase?

Rutile has a higher refractive index and scatters light more efficiently, so it reaches the same opacity at a lower loading. It is also more weather-resistant. Anatase is cheaper but rarely used in packaging for those reasons.

How much TiO2 ends up in the finished film?

The finished part carries roughly 60% of the masterbatch loading. Adding a 60% grade at 5% puts about 3% TiO2 into the film. Confirm the number with a gravimetric check on your own line.

Will white masterbatch make my film brittle?

At high loadings, yes. Titanium dioxide particles act as stress points and reduce impact and tear strength. Most film producers stay in the 2–10% range and compensate with a tougher resin grade or a small addition of impact modifier.

What does whiteness ≥97 mean in practice?

It is a reflectance measurement taken on a 2 mm injection-moulded plaque against a standard white reference. Higher numbers look brighter and less yellow. The test method and instrument are stated on the datasheet.

What is the minimum order and lead time?

One metric ton per grade, 7–15 day production lead time. Trial quantities can be combined with other grades on one pallet.
